Jesus Loves Me
‘Jesus Loves Me
This I Know
For the Bible
Tells Me So
Little Ones
To Him Belong
They are Weak
But He is Strong’
We sing this simple song in our children’s classes at church. They have never been quite as impactful to me though until this week. One day while we were waiting for the painters to mix our paint some of the children in our school had gathered during their lunch time. We noticed that many of the children only had a bag of popped corn or small cup of rice to eat. The children were quite interested at this point in what we were doing and were coming closer and closer to us. Suddenly, I felt the urge to take the kids away from the group of people and talk to them. I started singing ‘Jesus Loves Me’, and had them repeat after me. It was the most beautiful sound. They encircled me and we were all singing these simple words together. I prayed in that moment that they would know those words in their hearts, that they would feel them in their souls.
I am a mom of three, a preschool teacher assistant and before I became a mom, I was a pediatric nurse. I love children. The children here in Zimbabwe have pulled at my heart in so many ways. Another instance that I can remember is during our class time. On the last day, we brought bubbles for the kids. In the last 15 minutes, we went outside and started blowing them. The children in our class erupted in laughter. I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine. At that moment, their joy was overwhelming. They ran, jumped, and popped the bubbles.
The last memory that has stayed with me was an instance while we were at a home visit. We gathered in one of the ‘Gogo’s’ (Grandmother) gardens. She looked at me and asked me to get some water from her well and water her plants. She coached me thorough and it was a neat moment. Afterwards, we were leaving her garden and she grabbed my hand and told me that I would always be her daughter.
It’s been an incredible experience here in Zimbabwe. It’s great to see God’s people all around the world. My life is been enriched tremendously from this place and these people. Please join me in remembering these incredible people in your daily prayers. I can’t wait to see them again!
