Ministry Description
The Johnson’s followed God’s call to Guatemala in August of 2008. As they worked and lived among the people of Magdalena and Buena Vista, the depth of specific issues related to the men of Buena Vista came to light. They began praying for God to begin a ministry to the boys, which would soon become the Buena Vista Sports Academy for Boys. In the academy, the Johnson’s and their team work to break generational cycles of abuse, addiction, and absence related to extreme poverty. Brock has always worked in the business side of professional sports, which admittedly almost ruined him. He feels blessed to now be coaching and teaching boys who are far from the hoopla and self-absorption of professional sports. The entire family serves together through various roles at BVSA. Brock oversees the operation of the ministry, as well as coaches. Kerrie helps run the education program, and takes very seriously the role of “team mom.” Jake, 15, is a member of the Varsity Rhinos and has his sights set on being a missionary and playing professional soccer. Luciana Andrea, 3, keeps them all on their toes and helps make life just a little bit more of an adventure! The Johnson’s also have two daughters, Madi and Brooke, attending college in the US.
Join Us In Prayer
The boys we mentor as they manage such difficult lives from the constant abuse in the homes.
Praying for our graduates – that they would leave the academy and enter the community as grown men who are willing to stand up against the “male atrocities” that are so widely accepted in our village.
Our endurance: working, as well as living in the village can take its toll. We want to run the race set before us with honor.
