Today we went to the catch up school for elementary aged kids. A few minutes after arriving at the school the kids came outside and we all played games together. Afterwards we split into groups and went into classrooms to teach. We taught English, math, music, and science as well as sharing bible stories and singing songs with the students.
After rotating between the classes a few times, it was lunchtime. Our team had the opportunity to serve the students and teachers in the school lunch. It was so cool to see how the students’ faces lit up when we gave them a big plate of food. And even cooler was how they would respond “thank you, God bless you!” when they received it. It was an amazing way for us to serve the school with our time and bond over a shared meal.
After lunch we gathered with the students in a field outside of the school. A young girl from the school shared her testimony of living on the streets before she was taken in by the school. Then Loren shared her testimony and Matt gave a short message. When it was time to say goodbye, nobody wanted to leave, but we all knew that the kids were glad to have been able to spend time with us, just as we were with them.
Overall our visit to the catch up school was an incredible experience. Whether they learned from our lessons or not, the time that we got to spend talking and playing with them created relationships that brought joy to everyone.
