Today was our first full day in Buena Vista. We started the day off with going down the mountainside visiting with some of the Rhino families. We were welcomed with open arms into their homes. This took some of us off guard, because back home this has become uncommon. It made us realize how we miss those times and would love to adopt that idea again. One of the Rhinos was with us and he proudly introduced us to his mother and his family that was present at the time. Speaking with his mother, she started to cry, and profess her love for God, her family, and the fear of what could happen to some of her adult sons. As a Christian mother myself, I could relate with her struggle wanting to protect her child, and the circumstance of learning to let go and let God take over. I feel like God led me to hug this woman and share my story with her. Our situations are different, but as mothers our hearts hurt for the same thing for our sons. Even though we are across borders, God has a way of drawing people together to share each others’ burdens and to give each other encouragement. In a way it was like a miracle to me. Miracles can be the little things. She was a blessing to me and I hope I was one to her. She has forever touched my life.
