My name is Stefan and this is my first Compassion GO trip. I’ve traveled quite a bit in my lifetime, including to Guatemala, but never on a mission trip. For years I have wanted to go on a GO trip, however it never seemed to be the right time. I was supposed to be on a Guatemala trip last year, but was unable to go because of a death in the family. Thankfully I was able to join the trip this year, and the experience has been everything I hoped for and more.
The people in Guatemala have had the biggest impact on me so far. The Boys of the academy, as well as the young men who used to be in the academy, have been so welcoming. Every day feels like I’m hanging out with friends I’ve known for years, not with guys I just met three days ago. And I know those friendships will continue even after leaving.
A trip like this has many emotional ups and downs, as I’ve seen sad and difficult situations in the few days I’ve been here. But I’ve also seen the impact that BVSA can have on the lives of those they are sharing the light of Jesus with. These boys and young men are proof of what God can do in anyone’s life.
As I prepare for my last two days here, I ask for your prayers that God continues to use our trip for his purposes. My ongoing prayer will be that the boys at BVSA continue to grow into Godly young men. This isn’t a quick endeavor, but rather a long process, with a huge investment of time, love, and support from the missionaries here. But after just a short time here I can confidently say that every ounce of effort put in by those at Compassion Christian Church and the missionaries here is worth it a hundred times over.
