Trip Description
GO GUATEMALA Latino
¿Hablas español? ¡Este viaje es para ti! We are looking for Spanish speakers with a passion for investing into the lives of the young men of Buena Vista, Guatemala! This trip is a special partnership between our Compassion Latino community and the incredible ministry being done by the Buena Vista Sports Academy (BVSA). This trip will be focused on the efforts of BVSA which uses soccer as a way to teach character and share the Gospel with young men – many of whom come from homes plagued by abuse and lack hope for the future. You will spend a lot of time with the Rinos (the soccer players) and their families and encouraging them with the love of Christ. Our goal is that this team will take what God does in and through them in the field and reinvest it into our Latino communities here at home so we can reach our Latino neighbors with the hope of Jesus!
Note: This location of this trip requires good health and ability to engage in strenuous physical activity including walking distances with steep inclines. It is the request of our partner at this time that this team is comprised of only male leaders and students.
Applicants who are active participants in our Compassion Latino ministry and fluent Spanish-speakers will be given priority. Others are encouraged to apply and your applications will be reviewed for any open spots on the team no later than 120 days prior to the team’s travel.
For more information about this trip please email the team leader, Johanna White, at jokowhite@me.com.
All applications must be submitted no later than 120 days before departure for international trips and 90 days before domestic trips. Please note, applying for a GO Team does not confirm your spot on the team. Once applications are reviewed, you may be requested to participate in an informal interview with a Team Leader. Following review, you will be notified of your acceptance or status on a waiting list. If a team is full you can still apply and be put on a waiting list should a spot become available. If you are applying for a Campus-Specific Team with a campus you do not attend you will be added to the waiting list and notified of any open spots no later than 120 days prior to departure for international teams and 90 days prior to departure for domestic teams. Once your application is accepted for any team you will be asked to complete a registration for through Managed Missions which will include a deposit ($100 for international and $25 for domestic teams). Submission of your registration and deposit will confirm your spot on the team.
We will continue to monitor any restrictions to travel due to COVID protocol in the U.S. as well as the host countries for our International Teams. Because restrictions are likely to fluctuate, all locations, dates of travel and costs listed are tentative and subject to change. Please note, depending on the requirements of the destination, you may be required to have a COVID vaccine to travel. You will be notified of these requirements at your first GO Team Formation meeting. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility! You can check out current country-specific requirements on the State Department Website HERE.

About Brock & Kerrie Johnson
The Buena Vista Sports Academy exists to take the love of Jesus to tough places, evangelize and disciple boys and young men, pray for the Holy Spirit to light them on fire, and expect entire communities to come to Christ as a result. More than a “soccer ministry”, BVSA is an evangelism & discipleship ministry! Using the international language of soccer as a tool, we aim to break generational chains of sin, poverty, addiction, and spiritual lostness in tough places around the world.
You can read more about their life on the mission field and get updates on their family website.
