Jake Zauche’s team has made it safely to the mountain village where they will be spending the weekend. We hope to hear an update from them as soon as they have access to Internet.
Here’s an update from Kelli Mahany’s team, back in the city with the Holloway family:
We spent our first full day at the Experimental School. And just like at home, a truly great school is a partnership between teachers and parents. Who knew that we would have the opportunity to participate in an afterschool activity sponsored by the PTA? Parents, teachers, students, and our team all got to learn together about the history of the Dragon Boat festival. The best part was making the zongzi, the traditional food for this festival. Jimmy ruled as the best team member to tie up the triangle shaped zongzi. Except that most of the conversation was in Chinese, it had all the elements of a great educational activity. Children, challenging hands-on activity, collaboration, and lots of laughter!
As an educator and a mom, it was a sweet reminder that children are children wherever you. Please remember us as we are traveling for the next couple of days to the mountain and an orphanage. Everyone is well and we are enjoying sweet fellowship with the Holloways whose hospitality with the five of us in their home is humbling.
We loved seeing our grandchildren enjoying fellowship with this team! It looks like they are loving it, too!
