First Impressions-
After a long day of travel we finally reached CCDM at 10:30 PM on Sunday night. Once everyone was settled in Keith and I hit up the local Walmart to get supplies for the week. 7:15am came very quickly, but everyone was up and waiting with excitement.
After a meeting with Rhonna and Gary, two of the staff here, our teams divided up our task list and got to work. The guys had the pleasure of digging a drainage ditch. Keith gave us a crash course the proper use of tools and the dirt started to fly. By the end of it all the guys were covered in red clay.
The ladies started out by washing and cleaning out the vans. When they were finished the vehicles looked brand new. They then tackled the big job of laying approximately 1000 lbs (no joke) of mulch, and planting several new flowers in the beds.
Around 3:30 we gave up on yet task list for the day and went to meet the residents. It was a bit overwhelming for some of the students at first, and they seemed a bit hesitant. After everyone went around and introduced themselves and the students saw how much they had in common and how easy it was to connect. We helped them with dinner and ate and socialized until 6 when the residents had to start getting ready for bed.
It has been so cool to see all these students step up and serve! Can’t wait to see what Jesus will lead us through these next few days.
Thanks for your prayers, keep them coming.
