Today has been an incredible day in Ostroda, Poland. We worked hard all day preparing for the arrival of our special guests: The Holocaust survivors. We all dressed up in our nice clothes and anxiously awaited their arrival. As the bus turned into the drive my heart started beating fast and tears filled my eyes as we saw smiling faces waving at us from inside the bus. As each person stepped off the bus they gave us big hugs and kissed us on the cheek. After everyone settled in their rooms we had a delicious dinner of cheese crepes to celebrate the Jewish holiday : Shavuot. It is the day when God gave the Torah to the Jewish people.
After dinner we headed to the church for a message and time of celebration. At times it had to go through 2 other translations before it came to us in English. One man shared a very blunt message that we are Christians and our hope is to share the love of Christ with our guests. That we are not like the people who wore “black crosses” aka the nazis and did horrible things on the name of Jesus, but that the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob that they worship Is the same God we worship. There was singing and dancing and it was a beautiful thing to experience! We can’t wait until tomorrow!
Shalom, Morgan
