It’s monday morning here in Guatemala. We’ve been here since Friday and I feel like we’ve done so much!
We’ve had time to walk around buena vista and visit different families, meet some of the boys, help some families by delivering firewood to them. We were also able to finish up a big painting project yesterday at the sports academy and we’re excited we were able to do that!
What has really impressed me (well, one of so many things) has been meeting the boys around town and at the academy. Even around town, they come up to us and talk to us and want to help us with whatever we are doing… And this is not really common for kids down here to do. It reminds me of southern hospitality… A little bit of home! Being a part of BVSA is making such an impact on their lives and you can see it in their behavior and attitudes when they are in the academy and when they are in the village.
And I’m constantly reminded of the verse ‘Whats seen is temporary but what’s unseen is eternal.’ You can see hopelessness and extreme poverty all around you. This is before us constantly every day. But God is here and working and there are pockets of hope and treasures of joy that are seen. It’s exciting to see these seeds of hope being planted and growing in the boys and in the community. It will be amazing to see how the things that are being done now in Buena vista will be used by God to transform the men and this community for future generations.
