Today we went to Pius’s (one of our mission partners) church in Kigali. The church was beautiful and the people were so welcoming. The service began with worship. Although it was in another language, the passion and love for Christ the congregation expressed was unmistakable.
Pius introduced our group and welcomed us to the stage. The crowd, consisting of about 150 people, was very welcoming. Keith gave a few words about our group and thanked the congregation for their love. Alyssa gave her testimony to the crowd with the help of a translator. The crowd clapped and shouted with joy. Many times, the crowd applauded before it was even translated. Several members commented on the love they had from the testimony, one woman even claiming it “made her fall in love with God again.”
Following the testimony, the group got to lead a song in worship. Daniel played the keys, while Rebekah, Lauren, Carly, Taylor, and Stacy sang “Glorious Day.” The congregation did not know the song, but many stood to dance and clap along to the beat. It was clear they loved the performance and felt God’s presence.
After worship was over, we walked over to Sunday School and got to lead with the children. Malloy taught the kids the story of David and Goliath through a skit. The children portrayed various roles in the story, and acted out what Malloy was saying. It was silly and fun, but both the children and the “crazy Americans” enjoyed it. After the lesson, we all led the students in children’s worship songs. We danced, sang, and even heard some of their traditional songs performed at Sunday School.
Today was a great God sighting for the team. We were poured in to by the church members and witnessed the trust and love for God they have. We enjoyed our time at the church and can’t wait to get back in the schools this week!
