Today is Sunday, a day of rest, a day of worship. It has been an exhausting week so we definitely were looking forward to a day to recuperate and restore. We got to sleep in today (an extra half hour) and after breakfast and helping prepare for lunch we went to the worship service.
This year, the Hungarian students were in charge of the service. We sang some songs—it is always a treat to hear everyone singing familiar songs in various languages— prayed together and took communion together. The Hungarian students shared a beautiful video about their country and asked us to pray with them for their country: for children who need to be adopted, for public Christian schools, for the divisiveness in their country and that the gospel would be spread throughout their nation.
The sermon was preached by one of the American professors who taught related to Psalm 139. This is a part of the Bible that tells us about God’s continuous presence in our lives. We learned about taking comfort in God’s continual presence and how real worship is when we stop seeing God’s presence as a threat and start taking delight in his presence and welcome it and call for it. It was a powerful message.
After service, we served lunch and had the opportunity to spend the afternoon in Baden. Baden is a nearby town where we had the opportunity to take a nice hike, drink coffee and eat ice cream. This day of rest and restoration was definitely needed by all. The weather has definitely taken a turn; today it was quite chilly and very cloudy. I guess our sunny days are over.
We ended the day with stories and songs around the campfire—always a wonderful experience. Somehow singing praises to God around a beautiful and warm fire makes me feel closer to Him. Tomorrow we start our day at normal time and we are all back to our duty stations. Before we know it, we will be returning home.
I have met so many wonderful individuals here and had the opportunity to learn about other cultures and how God is working in various places. I am honored to play such a small part in helping spread the Word of our Lord.
Always in His name.
