Today we went to a school in Kabuga, Rwanda and performed a “concert” for the students. We had Daniel lead on the keyboard, and had several of our talented female vocalist lead worship. Even though the students didn’t know the songs we sang, it was evident that they understood the message and the love of Christ we were singing about.
Afterwards, the students got the chance to come up and show off some of their singing and dancing to us. It was heartwarming to see the joy they had and excitement to be with us. We even had Carly, a dancer back home, perform a dance with such talent and energy. When she danced, the students were in awe and could not take their eyes off of her. The “concert” went better than we could have imagined and was truly a blessing.
We spent the remainder of our time at the school playing games, laughing, and enjoying the company of the students. Today was our second and final day at the Kabuga school. Even though we just met these kids yesterday, it was tough to say goodbye. Amongst many hugs and tears, we told the students how much they meant to us and thanked them for their love in return. Stacy in particular had an emotional connection with some of the students. They asked if they would see her again, to which she replied that if they walk with Jesus, they will get to live with her for eternity in heaven. It was a great representation of our purpose here in Rwanda: to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Many of the students here just want to be hugged and told they are loved. We were able to show them the love they seek and gave them comfort. While it seemed like we came here to be a light for these students, they taught us so much more. They are so intelligent and love to be in school. It is a blessing to them, and are so grateful to just receive an education. In the states, we students often take this for granted. We saw the pure joy they had to learn and the thankfulness they had to just be with us.
We are looking forward for the remainder of our time in Rwanda. We ask that you pray for the students of the Kabuga school who impacted us dearly. Thank you again!
