“Today was the first day of our mission trip work in the schools. We went to 2 different highschools and split into different groups. 3 or 4 of us would sit in front of classes of polish kids and have them ask us questions about America or anything ranging from gun laws to stereotypes Americans have about Polish people. We also gave them candy to motivate them to ask us questions. Halfway through the day, half of our group went to another school with Simon and Mrs. Leisha; we contined to do the same at this school. The other group stayed with David at the school and taught them how to play baseball. Around 2 or 3 pm we met up with David’s team and we played a game of baseball with the kids. After the baseball game, and the individual classes, we invited the kids to come meet with us at the end of the week for an American themed party. While not all the kids seemed to be interested, there were certain kids that genuinely seemed interested about attending and even immediately put the date into their phone. One thing to mention is that the younger the students, the less likely they were to ask us questions, even when prompted with candy. When considering the rest of the classes we will be visiting, we should figure out a way to help connect with the 14-16 year olds. After hanging out with the kids, we left and went around Warsaw with Simon; we ate our first genuinely polish perogies. After that, Simon took us to a candy shop where we all watched 3 polish workers roll out a long strand of candy, and after they were done, we were even able to try some of the candy. After that, Simon took us home and we rested. We then met up as a team and talked about our plans for the following day.”
