We have arrived safely in Rwanda! We landed in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, around 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Our mission partners welcomed us immediately and smiled as though they were seeing old friends, despite first meeting most of us in that moment. We arrived to our home for the next two weeks, only to be welcomed by two loving and graceful women who prepared a wonderful meal for us.
On Thursday, we got an amazing opportunity to visit the Rwanda Genocide Museum. Here we relived the tragedy that took place in Rwanda in 1994. We heard stories unimaginable by mankind of torture and murder, by also learned the lesson of forgiveness and hope many Rwandans now possess. Although we did not experience the realities of the genocide, nor were many of our team members even alive at the time, we all took away a valuable glimpse of God’s peace and love. The people of Rwanda, while still rebuilding their nation from the chaos, display forgiveness to the very people who killed their families and loved ones. That is something most of us can’t fathom in the United States, which is why we are truly blessed to spend time in Rwanda and learn from this trip.
We would all like to thank those who supported our journey to Rwanda, and are excited with the coming days of our trip!
